Where it started
A repair shop Google could not see.
My Appliance Guy is a small, growing business. A local team that drives to homes in Eastlake, Mentor, Willoughby and the towns around them to fix the refrigerator that stopped cooling or the washer that will not drain.
Small repair companies live and die on the phone. When a homeowner’s fridge quits, they grab their phone, search, and call whoever shows up first. In January 2024, that was almost never My Appliance Guy. Semrush counted seven ranking keywords for the whole site.
The national dispatch networks and big-box repair services own those searches by default. A small shop does not beat them with a bigger budget. It beats them by being more useful, in more towns, on more questions.

The build
Every town. Every appliance.
Homeowners search two ways: by the broken appliance and by where they live. We built a page for every combination that mattered, then a library of answers for the questions they ask before they ever pick up the phone.
189 service area pages, built programmatically
We built the service area structure in three layers. Two county hubs, for Lake County and Eastern Cuyahoga. Nineteen city hubs underneath them, from Eastlake and Mentor to Willoughby, Painesville, Kirtland and Wickliffe. Then up to nine appliance pages under every city: refrigerator, freezer, washer, dryer, oven, range, cooktop, dishwasher and microwave.
That is 167 service and city pages like washing machine repair Mentor Ohio, each with local detail a template alone cannot fake: lake-effect humidity on fridge gaskets, hard water scale in washers, the neighborhoods off Route 615. Each city hub links down to its nine services, and every one ends in a call to action.

A blog that beat the reference sites
The Appliance Resource Center now holds 174 articles that answer the questions homeowners actually type. Where are LG appliances made. Are Stanley cups dishwasher safe. How to run a Samsung self-clean cycle. Is a ceiling fan an appliance.
Those questions are usually answered by government sites, buying guides and industry references. A small repair shop in Eastlake, with a domain authority of 10, started outranking them. Semrush even lists Whirlpool Corporation’s own website among its organic competitors.
Questions with real search volume
These are not vanity topics. “Are Stanley cups dishwasher safe” draws about 1,900 searches a month and “where are LG appliances made” about 1,000. The LG article reached the top five on Google, alongside manufacturing trade sites and press releases. The dishwasher version took the number two spot.
Every reader who lands on an answer sees a repair company that knows appliances, a phone number and a service area page one click away.
- 174 articles on brands, parts, cleaning and repair.
- A call to action on every one, because a reader today is a repair call tomorrow.

The results
From 7 keywords to 35,797 visits.
Semrush counted 7 ranking keywords in January 2024. By January 2025 it counted 1,398. By August 2025, 3,223. In February 2026 the site peaked at 4,468 keywords, with 73 in Google’s top three a month earlier. Then in April 2026, estimated organic traffic hit 35,797 visits, traffic Semrush valued at $141,608 in equivalent ad spend. Traffic has since settled back to the low thousands, and the site still ranks for more than 3,600 keywords.

What the owner sees
Not traffic. Phone calls.
A repair company does not get paid for visits. It gets paid when the phone rings and a technician is in a driveway that afternoon. The search growth above turned into a massive amount of call volume for a small team, from homeowners in every one of the towns those pages cover.
That is the job local SEO for small business has to do: put a local company in front of the person with the broken appliance, in their town, before they call someone else. My Appliance Guy now shows up for that person across two counties, with 346 Google reviews waiting to close the deal.
What it proves
Small business, big search footprint.
You do not need to be a national brand to win search. You need a page for every town you serve, a page for every job you do, and better answers than the sites that rank today. My Appliance Guy went from seven keywords to more than four thousand, and to tens of thousands of visitors in a month, on exactly that.
If you run a local service business and Google cannot see you yet, the same path is open to you.
