Home services SEO case study
Home services SEO case study: Green & Clean Home Services
From a hacked website to page one across Northeast Ohio.
This home services SEO case study follows a chimney, fireplace, masonry and cleaning contractor based in Mentor-on-the-Lake, Ohio. When we took over in December 2024, the website was hacked and throwing fatal errors. Fourteen months later it ranked for 5,254 keywords, twenty times where it started, and drew more than 14,000 Google clicks.

Where it started
A hacked site and a business on hold.
Green & Clean came to us in December 2024 with a website that had been hacked. Pages threw fatal errors, the code was compromised, and a contractor who lives on phone calls from Google had a site that could not be trusted by visitors or by search engines.
We inherited the build, so this was not a blank slate. We were cleared to rebuild the homepage, and everything else had to be repaired in place. We cleaned the infection, fixed the fatal errors programmatically across the site, secured it, and relaunched it fast, because every week offline was a week of lost chimney and duct cleaning calls.
Then we started building on top of it.

The build
Fix it, then expand it.
A home services company does not need a flashy website. It needs a fast, secure site that answers the exact search a homeowner types, in the exact town they live in, and gets the phone to ring.
A homepage that says everything at once
The homepage was the one page we were cleared to rebuild, so we made it carry the whole business. A top bar with the main and emergency numbers, office hours and 24/7 emergency help. A banner that names every service in one headline, with Northeast Ohio right in it. Buttons for services and a free quote, and a bright certification band with NADCA, CSIA and the other badges homeowners look for before they let someone on the roof.
- Two phone numbers and 24/7 emergency help on every page.
- Certifications up front, where a homeowner decides who to trust.
Service pages for every job
Chimney work is the core of the business, but the company also cleans air ducts, dryer vents, carpets and upholstery, and does masonry. Each service got its own landing page, written to rank for that service on its own, so a search for dryer vent cleaning lands on a dryer vent page instead of a generic home page.
The chimney and fireplace cleaning page became the second most viewed page on the site after the homepage.
52 service area pages
Then we went town by town. We built 52 service area landing pages across Lake, Geauga and Cuyahoga counties and into Medina, ten pages per city, each one tying a real service to a real community. That is how a contractor in Mentor-on-the-Lake shows up for a homeowner searching from Chardon, Willoughby or Strongsville.
A steady blog program, twelve posts a month, answered the questions homeowners search between jobs. One article on installing a dryer vent hose in a tight space jumped 1,266% in impressions in a single week.
The playbook
Home services SEO, the way it actually works.
Homeowners search by problem and by town. Every piece of this program was built to meet them there, and to keep a site that had already been hacked once safe while it grew.
Clean, then secure
Malware removed, fatal errors fixed across the site in code, and ongoing security patching so it stayed clean.
A page per service
Chimney, fireplace, masonry, air duct, dryer vent, carpet and upholstery, each ranking on its own.
A page per town
52 service area pages, ten per city, across four Northeast Ohio counties.
Twelve blogs a month
Answers to the questions homeowners ask, timed to the seasons when they ask them.
Site health
Technical fixes took site health from 86% to 94%, so Google could crawl every new page cleanly.
Calls and forms tracked
Conversion tracking on forms and calls, so every page could be judged by the jobs it brought in.
The results
Dominating the winter.
When we took over, Semrush counted 266 ranking keywords. By September 2025 it counted 1,619. Then chimney season hit. Between December 2025 and February 2026, keywords jumped from 2,961 to 5,254, estimated organic visits went from 1,220 to 3,034 a month, and by March 75 keywords sat in Google’s top three. Search Console shows daily clicks peaking above 130 in March 2026, with 14,200 clicks and 3.03 million impressions over sixteen months.

The honest part
The engagement ended.
Our engagement with Green & Clean ran from December 2024 to September 2026. Search settled from its spring 2026 peak, and the business moved on to another provider. The work above is what our team built and the results it produced while we ran it.
Even through the summer, the slowest season for chimney work, the site was still drawing more than 2,100 Google clicks and 381,000 impressions every three months, on 52 local pages and a homepage that went from hacked to trusted.
What it proves
A hacked site is not a dead end.
Most contractors with a hacked website assume they have to start over, and lose a year doing it. Green & Clean did not. We fixed what was broken, rebuilt the page that mattered most, and expanded around it, and the site went from compromised to ranking for over five thousand keywords in fourteen months.
If your site has been hacked, neglected or inherited from someone who left, the same path is open to you.
